Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away: No Face

No-Face

The face of ghost Miyazaki, aghast and exasperated, depressed and perceptive, melancholy and curious, wrathful and innocent, sunken yet surprised, sad but beautiful. A totem of the human experience, yet nothing of it. A spirit free from judgment, unknowable yet familiar, eerie yet relieving, horrifying and inviting. When we look at it, we are looking at ourselves.
